Founded in 2021 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Big Island Seafood LLC is a locally owned and operated company built on a foundation of integrity, sustainability, and a deep respect for Hawaii’s fishing culture. The company was established by Jared Dufault, a seasoned entrepreneur and lifelong fisherman with an extensive background in the Hawaiian seafood industry. Jared previously founded Kona Seafood Market LLC and, after selling that business, set out to create something even more impactful for the community — thus, Big Island Seafood was born.

At the heart of Big Island Seafood’s mission is a commitment to supporting Hawaii’s local fishermen and ensuring that island residents and visitors alike have access to the freshest fish available. The majority of seafood sold is sourced directly from Hawaiian waters, with an emphasis on small-scale fishing operations located on the Big Island and throughout the neighboring islands.

While some specialty species like salmon are sourced from out of state due to Hawaii’s natural limitations, most of the seafood sold is native to the Pacific and caught with sustainable practices in mind. The company has forged strong relationships with boat captains, divers, and shoreline fishermen to ensure fair pricing and a steady flow of high-quality, responsibly caught seafood.

• Big Island Abalone, known for their premium quality shellfish raised in pristine, deep-ocean water

• Blue Ocean Mariculture, the only open-ocean fish farm in the U.S., raising King Kampachi with exceptional care
